Win a Photobook

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Entry in the Airscene Calendar competition means getting to an airshow, which is something that many of you are unable to do year in year out due to other commitments.

For this reason Airscene is pleased to announce a little competition which everyone should be able to enter. The rules are very simple:

Entrants allowed to post 2 images, must be taken in 2011 and belong to the entrant. Subject matter: Any photo taken at an airport.  The competition is hosted on Airscene forums, please visit for further details: http://www.airscene.co.uk/competitions.php

Air Frames Imaging have kindly offered the prize for this competition – a hard back copy of “Air Displays 2010” valued at £24.99.

Closing date of competition is 31st July whereby a small Airscene panel will choose the best entry.

Good Luck

Airscene 2012 Calendar Competition

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

This years Calendar Competition is now officially open!

Discussions are now taking place with prospective sponsors, and I am hoping to begin making announcements with regard to prize allocation within the next few weeks. The competition is open each year before the prizes start rolling in as early bird interest helps with sponsorship. So if you have a photograph taken at an airshow last season you may of course enter it into this years competition as one of your two permitted entries. You second entry however MUST be taken during the 2011 Airshow season.

There is a single small change to the rules for this year; all entries submitted must be in the 2 * 1 landscape format – vertical or square formats will be rejected. This change is brought about by the need to ensure all entries are judged on the same basis, and not to expect judges to decide if there is a suitable crop within an entry.

Prize allocation is expected to be the same as last year e.g. 1st, 2nd and 3rd, with 3 runner up places. Please ensure to read all rules before submission.

Good Luck, and I look forward to receiving your entries.

IC-R6 Swells Competition Prize Pot

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

For those of you who need another reason to enter this years calendar competition, how about another 200 reasons instead…. the £200 Icom IC-R6!

Icom UK Ltd are adding this powerful pocket sized scanner to the first prize pot for this years competition, taking the total value of first prize to over £500, making this years prize pot the biggest ever.

Ian Lockyer, Marketing Manager for Icom said, ‘ While retaining basic features of its popular predecessor the IC-R5, the IC-R6 contains many improvements including 100 channel per second scanning speed, 1300 memory channels, 15 hours of continuous receive capability, optional drop-in charger stand and voice control squelch. All these new features combined with a high degree of usability means that the IC-R6 will be equally at home with any casual listener of broadcast stations or the serious scanning enthusiast seeking a pocket sized quality receiver.’

Monday, December 28th, 2009

The Airscene Photographer of the Year competition is back once more.

Already the prizes have started coming on, and there are several more offers on the table.

Southampton based military artist Stuart Brown is offering up another copy of his print “Black Hawk – Special Delivery” towards the first prize pot. Stuart has been busy this last year or so working on commissioned pieces for various army regiments and the Air Force – to see more of his work please visit www.skipperpress.com

Ebury Publishing are providing the prizes for the first two themes… Each winner receiving a copy of the “Boys Book of Airfix” (RRP £20) written by Arthur Ward. For those who may be interested but unable to enter this years competition, more information can be found at http://www.eburypublishing.co.uk/viewbook.asp?isbn=0091928982

It has taken a little while to come up with this years themes but I finally did it. The themes are intended to be typical of the work carried out by a magazine photographer, along with a couple of creative themes thrown in for fun. The popular “Digital” and “Old Age” themes from 2008 have been included again this year.

Branded Memory Sticks from Icom

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Icom UK Ltd have generously given us another handful of 1GB Memory sticks towards this years calendar competition, these will go some way towards ensuring that all winning entries receive a prize in this years competition.

Icom are a leader in PC controlled scanners such as the PCR1500, and its more advanced variants such as the PCR2500. Icom also manufacture a cracking range of handheld scanners such as the IC-R5 and IC-R20 – these are so good at what they do; they are often advertised by suppliers as Airband Scanners, even though they in fact have full spectrum coverage. The amazing Icom IC-R3 stands alone, being the first scanner to come with a 2 inch screen for viewing live TV or wireless camera broadcasts. For more details please visit http://www.icomuk.co.uk

Further prizes are expected in the near future, so prize allocation table is incomplete and is likely to change as more prizes are received.  http://www.airscene.co.uk/competitions/2010calendar.php
