{"id":3353,"date":"2026-02-26T15:05:52","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T15:05:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.airscene.co.uk\/news\/?p=3353"},"modified":"2026-02-26T15:05:52","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T15:05:52","slug":"on-the-roof-the-iranian-embassy-siege-remembered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.airscene.co.uk\/news\/aviation-news-uk\/aviation-museum-news\/on-the-roof-the-iranian-embassy-siege-remembered\/","title":{"rendered":"On The Roof: The Iranian Embassy Siege Remembered"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.airscene.co.uk\/article-images-26\/ArmyFlying-Embassy.jpg\" alt=\"Army Flying Museum - Iranian Embassy Siege Remembered\n\" style=\"width:690px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On the 30<sup>th of<\/sup> April 1980, six-armed men stormed the Iranian embassy in South Kensington in London, it was a siege that was to last for six days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gunmen took 26 people hostage including embassy staff, several visitors and a police officer who had been guarding the embassy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the sixth day of the siege, the gunmen, frustrated at the lack of progress to their demands, killed a hostage and threw his body out of the embassy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The British Special Air Service (SAS) initiated Operation Nimrod to rescue the remaining hostages, abseiling from the roof and forcing entry through the windows.&nbsp; The raid, which was televised live on a bank holiday evening, became a defining moment in British History.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Army Flying Museum at Middle Wallop in Hampshire are thrilled to give you the opportunity to hear from a veteran of Red Team, B Squadron, 22 SAS Regiment as he describes the events of the Iranian Embassy siege of 1980 at the Museum on Monday 9<sup>th<\/sup> March.<br><br>This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear and ask questions of the first-hand account of someone who was there.
