Flight
Sim Links
General
Download Sites:
|
| Simviation.com
seem to have been around forever , and is now firmly established
within the top 3 flight sim sites on the internet. Boasting of
60 Gigabytes of freeware downloads , you will certainly be busy
for hours on this site, with downloads availble in several categories
and various version of Flight Sim. Simviation uses media fastclick
advertising on this site, and there are restrictions on the speed
of downloads, however they do offer a premium service which is
free of adverts and has download speeds of up to 1MB. Simviation
does make comments regarding their use of fast click advertising,
it is annoying, it has questionable delivery methods and it is
blocked by a variety of spyware programs. We still get the pop-up
windows here but no content is shown, perhaps simviation should
consider raising money through ppc adverts instead. All
in all this isstill one of our personal favourites. |
|
| Planesimulation.com
is certainly another of those very busy flightsim sites . It not
only features the usual freeware downloads , but also has many
other features too , including special packages for Super Users.
In our opinion not the best site, it looks good and is easy to
navigate but often pages are very slow to open (if they open at
all). Still worth a look though as these sites dont always have
the same content. |
|
| Another
of the larger flight sim sites, with quite an array of downloads
(aircraft, panels, videos, scenery etc). The site looks clean
and is easy to navigate with only one real exception, It simply
refuses to show the new files available for download. perhaps
this is because people are no longer uploading to this site or
it may be that you have to enter the name of an aircraft and hope
that it is in the newest files, either way it is not completely
functional. |
|
| Surclaro
is another clean looking site, its layout and functionality being
similar to that of Flightsim Zone's. They do seem to also have
the same standard stock of aircraft, so choosing one of these
sites over the other is pretty much on the toss of a coin. Again
problems with functionality came to our attention in so much as
the popular downloads page appears to be missing compeletely,
however it is possible to see the new downloads. |
Virtual
Airlines:
|
| We
first looked at Flightbase back in 2000, shortly after they started
up, at that time they were a general download site... these days
they are dedicated to the Virtual Airline industry. There is not
a lot we can say about their activities as we are yet to sign
up and try it out, but they sure do have a lot of content ...
Get paid for your flights, earn promotion, but stocks in the airline,
try your hand at the casino... Again we are yet to take a good
look, but we have a feeling there might be a little overkill here.
We like flying, we like money, but do we really need a completely
virtual life? |
Sites
to avoid:
|
| Dodgy
is the best word to describe this site. The flash intro at the
top of the page appears to have been stolen from Harsas.com, the
links on the flash video do not work either. The Google Ads seem
to have prominence over the content they supposedly want you to
download. The important links at the bottom all lead back to the
main page (contact. sitemap, legal etc) and the content simply
appears to be a rip off from a more reputable site. Feel free
to peruse if you wish but Airscene DO NOT endorse this site in
any way, shape or form. |
