The MHAS Control Tower Museum displays; show an operational airfield spanning almost 50 years. Prior to the formation of the RAF the airfield was operated by the "Royal Flying Corps".

Between WW1 and WW2 it was the "Aeroplane & Armaments Experimental Establishment" (A. & A.E.E.). During 1940 it was part of 11 Group and took part in the "Battle of Britain". In 1943 the USAAF 8th Airforce '356th Fighter Group' took up residence alongside the RAF.

After WW2 ended, RAF Martlesham Heath took part in 'Blind Landing Experiments' and was home to the 'Bomb Ballistic Unit' testing Atomic Bomb casings.
